Fujimi Tuned FD3S RX-7, various series

It took Fujimi quite a long time before they did a 3rd gen RX-7 kit, but the results were worth the wait. Fujimi did no less than seven different body styles. You can find the regular FD3S kit on a separate page, this page lists special versions such as Tuner specials and anime versions.
The Fujimi FD3S kits are curbside kits, but chassis and cabin interior are well detailed.
As Mazda only sold the full-size late-model RX-7's in Japan, Fujimi only includes a RHD dashboard.

I have added a list of links to websites of car tuners mentioned in the text at the end of this page. Links in the text refer to this list.

Mazdaspeed FD3S RX-7 Touring A-Spec, Inch Up Disk series Nr.81

released in October 1999
rereleased in July 2013

box top (13.7kB) The Touring version of the '92 FD3S, upgraded with a Mazdaspeed A-Spec Type II aero kit and 18in Mazdaspeed MS-02 wheels with Dunlop Denloc D40 tires. The kit is molded all in black. Note that the seats on the box art differ from the racing buckets inside the box. Basically this kit is similar to the first 'Initial D' kit, but with a modified body with a new front spoiler, with the Mazdaspeed aerokit added, a black instead of a yellow body and without the 'Initial D' goodies.
As with the RS kit, the side of the box shows some useful detail pics of a real FD3S fitted with an A-spec aerokit.

Enfini FD3S RX-7 Mazdaspeed A-Spec, Carbon Aero series Nr.2

released in June 2001

box top (14kB) This kit is similar to the regular Mazdaspeed A-Spec FD3S release listed above. Differences between the kits are:

Enfini FD3S RX-7 Mazdaspeed A-Spec Rudora, Auto Gallery series Nr.44

released in February 2003

box top (17kB) This kit is identical to Carbon Aero series Mazdaspeed A-Spec FD3S release, with a small decal sheet for Rudora markings added.

Mazda FD3S RX-7 Mazdaspeed A-Spec GT-W Wing, GT-Wing series Nr.3

released in September 2003

This kit is similar to the regular Mazdaspeed A-Spec FD3S release listed above with a nice set of parts added for a dual aerofoil rear wing ('Varis Alumi GT-W wing Type-S' according to the box edge).
Body, aero kit and interior parts are molded in red, wing and chassis parts are molded in black, wheels are satin aluminum plated.
Decals are the same as for the regular Mazdaspeed A-Spec FD3S release.

RE Amemiya The Street µ Greddy 9 FD3S RX-7, Racing Star series Nr.7

released in August 2002

real Greddy 9 rear view (8.5kB)real Greddy 9 rear view (8.4kB)

real Greddy 9 fitted with AW7 wheels (18.1kB)
This kit is basically the Initial D FD3S RX-7 Kai kit with added parts and different hood, sideskirts and wheels. The model looks almost like the picture on the box top, biggest differences are that the recessed Amemiya headlights are not included and the Enkei wheels are 17in (from a Lancer Evo V kit) fitted with Bridgestone RE71 tires rather than 18in fitted with Advan tires.
Good news is that the real car was also fitted with 18in RE Amemiya AW7 wheels, which are available separately from Fujimi
New parts are an Amemiya style vented hood, front air dam/bumper, side skirts and wing mirrors and a large raised rear wing. A further subtle change is the replacement of the tail light cluster with an Amemiya style one with 3 small separate lights on each side and an added lip spoiler.
The kit also contains the seats from the RZ kit. In all there are 4 steering wheels, 4 bucket seats, 3 sets of rearview mirrors, 3 rear wings, 2 front air dams/bumpers and some spare exhaust parts included, most of which go straight into the spares box.
Two sets of decals are included, the familiar set with dials and markings from the RS '99 kit and a new set with all the markings for the Street µ Greddy 9 scheme including a japanese license plate and 'carbon pattern' decals for the hood and the wing mirrors. The carbon patterns show a bit too much silver for my taste, the decals for the Aspara bottles are very nicely done though. The carbon pattern decal for the hood is a single piece and has no cuts or spare bits for the vents.
Body, aerokit and interior parts are molded in bright metallic green, seats are molded in red and chassis parts are molded in black. The wheels are aluminum plated.

The pics showing the full size car are borrowed from the RE Amemiya web site.

RE Amemiya The Street µ Greddy 9 FD3S RX-7, Inch Up Disc Nr.153

released in June 2010

Fujimi RE Amemiya The Street µ Greddy 9 box top (24.0kB) This is the same kit that was previously released in the Racing Star series.
Apart from the boxart and the instruction sheet, no changes were made to the kit (so still no recessed headlights and the Enkei wheels are still too small).
Body, aerokit and interior parts are molded in bright metallic green, chassis parts are molded in black, seats are molded in red. The wheels are aluminum plated.

Mazdaspeed FD3S RX-7 R-spec Touring Kit, Racing Star series Nr.10

released in July 2002

For 2002, Mazdaspeed created this RX-7 R-spec version, a car designed to incorporate the latest racing technology enabling it to reach 300kmh and yet be street-legal.
This is the second kit based on the latest retooled body with separate parts for the hood and front and rear bumpers. Apart from the body, the kit is similar to the Bathurst R kit but with a new tree of parts added for the R-spec aerokit and a new set of wheels.
The new parts tree offers new front and rear bumpers, a slotted vented hood, side skirts, door mirrors and a raised rear wing.
The 18in Mazdaspeed MS-01S wheels are represented by 18in Rega Master wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza RE711 tires.
A new set of decals includes white-on-blue dials, 'R-spec' and Mazdaspeed logos for the doors and wheels and black masks for the front indicator/running light clusters.
The box art shows some nice pictures of a full size Mazdaspeed RX-7 R-spec.
Body and interior parts are molded in dark blue and chassis parts are molded in black. The wheels are also molded in black so you need a good coat of grey primer before painting them white.

Mazdaspeed FD3S RX-7 B-spec Touring Kit, Racing Star series Nr.14

released in July 2003

Fujimi Mazdaspeed B-spec box top (7.5kB)Fujimi Mazdaspeed B-spec box top (8kB) The Mazdaspeed RX-7 B-spec version is a simplified R-spec version without the elaborate aerokit.
This is the third kit based on the latest retooled body with separate parts for the hood and front and rear bumpers. The kit is similar to the Mazdaspeed R-spec kit but without the side skirts and with new front and rear bumpers and a set of RZ seats.
Half of the R-spec parts tree with the slotted vented hood is included, so you also get the R-Spec door mirrors and the aerofoil part of the rear wing thrown in for free.
As with the R-spec kit, the 18in Mazdaspeed MS-01S wheels are represented by 18in Rega Master wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza RE711 tires.
A piece of steel mesh is included for the main intake in the front bumper.
A large new set of decals includes white-on-blue dials, 'B-spec' and Mazdaspeed logos for the doors, seatbacks and wheels, black masks for the front indicator/running light clusters and carbon fibre print for the hood and the rear wing.
The box art shows some useful pictures of a full size Mazdaspeed RX-7 B-spec.
Body and interior parts are molded in silver and chassis parts are molded in black. The RZ seats are molded in red. The wheels are painted gold.

Mazdaspeed FD3S RX-7 B-spec Touring Kit, Inch Up Disc Nr.154

released in June 2010

Fujimi Mazdaspeed B-spec box top (21.4kB) This is the same kit that was previously released in the Racing Star series.
Apart from the boxart and the instruction sheet, no changes were made to the kit.
Body and interior parts are molded in silver, chassis parts are molded in black, the RZ seats are molded in red. The wheels are painted gold (true gold, not the titanium yellow shade on the box art).

RE Amemiya µ Boost Up 7 SPL, Racing Star series Nr.26

released in July 2006

Fujimi Amemiya SPL FD3S RX-7 box top (23.3kB) This kit represents the latest RE Amemiya Super G street racer, which in turn looks like a street legal version of the RE Amemiya Greddy D1GP drift racer. The kit contains most of the parts of the 'Initial D' FD3S Project D kit apart from:

Parts for the recessed headlights are included so this time Fujimi got it absolutely right.
Body and interior parts are molded in teal blue, chassis parts and K-parts are molded in black, wheels are satin aluminum plated.
The nice big set of decals offers everything to recreate the wild paint scheme of the real car on the box top, but again you need to provide your own carbon print decals for the front splitter, the rear undertray and the rear wing mounts.
With its beautiful bodykit and its wild graphics, this kit easily qualifies as being the best and most spectacular looking FD kit Fujimi made sofar.

Acu-Stion makes an Upgrade Parts Set for this model kit.

RE Amemiya µ Boost Up 7 SPL, Inch Up Disc series Nr.141

released in May 2009

Fujimi Amemiya SPL FD3S RX-7 box top (28.3kB) This is the same kit that was previously released in the Racing Star series. Body and interior parts are molded in teal blue, chassis parts and K-parts are molded in black, wheels are satin aluminum plated.

Mazda RX-7 Kai, Inch Up Disc series Nr.43

released in Mar 2014

Fujimi Mazda RX-7 Kai box top (24.6kB) This is the same kit that was previously released in the Initial D series.
The kit comes with 18in RE Amemiya AW7 wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza RE711 tires.
The decal sheet is the same as the one in the Initial D series kit and offers Enfini badges and the usual console and instrument faces, license plates, etc.
The tail light cluster is of the early type with rectangular lights, matching the Enfini badges.
Body, chassis and all other parts are molded in black, wheels are satin plated.

Garage TT FD3S RX-7, Auto Gallery series Nr.34

released in October 2002

Fujimi Garage TT FD3S RX-7 box top (18.1kB) This kit is similar to the Bathurst R kit with different wheels and new decals.
Despite the picture on the box top, the model in the box has a regular Mazda hood without any slots. The wheels are 17in Hart CP-035 fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tires, these wheels differ a bit from the ones on the box top, which have wider rims. A set of metal shims is included to widen the rear track.
A nice big set of colorful decals offers everything to recreate the wild paint scheme of the real car on the box top.
Body and interior parts are molded in white and chassis parts are molded in black.

Advan GAB Rigid FD3S RX-7, Auto Gallery series Nr.40

released in January 2003

Fujimi Advan GAB Rigid FD3S RX-7 box top (18.8kB) This kit is similar to the Type RZ kit with different wheels and new decals.
The wheels are 17in Yokohama Advan TC II fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tires (wot, no Yokohama Advan ?). A set of metal shims is included to widen the rear track.
Body, chassis and interior parts are molded in black and the separate RZ seats are molded in yellow. The wheels are painted gold. The yellow RZ parts appear to be an afterthought as these are not mentioned on the instruction sheet, the RZ seats are a welcome replacement for the regular ones in the kit though.

RX-7 FD3S, Keisuke Takahashi, 'Initial D' series Nr.10

released in May 1999
rereleased in July 2012
rereleased in June 2013

This Japan-only release depicts the '96 FD3S version as it appears in the japanese manga 'Initial D'. The box contains a new body with the earlier style nose and taillights, new Mazdaspeed MS-02 wheels with Dunlop Denloc D40 tires, an additional big dual-aerofoil rear wing and a new exhaust system. Two decal sheets are included, one offers Enfini badges, instrument and center console faces, license plates and 'Initial D' related markings and another small sheet offers decals for side marker and side indicator lights. There is a cardboard sheet in the box with punch-out drawings of the main characters of 'Initial D' . box top (10.5kB)box top (11kB)

RX-7 FD3S, Keisuke Takahashi, 'Initial D Animation' series

released in June 1999

box top (17.9kB) Another limited Japan-only release, this time depicting the '96 FD3S version as it appears in the japanese anime 'Initial D, the Revenge'.
The box contains the same early FD3S body as the Initial D Nr.10 kit, standard 5-spoke wheels for a '99 RS type with Bridgestone RE71 tires (wot, no Expedia's ??) an additional sheet of decals (that makes 3 sheets in total) and all the goodies of the other 'Initial D' kit.
gift (7kB) The biggest surprise is the inclusion of a 1/87 FD3S RX-7 miniature, cast in pewter and carefully packed in a neat little gift pack. The little model is polished and best left unpainted, but some decals are included on the main sheet just in case you prefer painting it.

RX-7 FD3S Mazdaspeed A-Spec, 'Initial D' series Nr.12

released in October 1999
rereleased in July 2012
rereleased in June 2013

box top (25.1kB) This Japan-only release depicts a '96 RX-7 FD3S fitted with a Mazdaspeed A-Spec aerokit as it appears in the japanese manga 'Initial D'. This kit differs from Fujimi's regular FD3S A-spec kit in having an additional set of decals. Other differences are in the Bridgestone RE71 tires and the colors of the parts (yellow for body, spoiler kit and interior, grey for the chassis parts).
The additional decal sheet offers additional markings and there is a cardboard sheet in the box with punch-out drawings of the main characters of 'Initial D' .

Enfini FD3S RX-7 Kai, Kyoko, 'Initial D' series Nr.17

released in May 2002

Initial D RX-7 FD3S Kai box top (22.8kB)Initial D RX-7 FD3S Kai box top (22.8kB) This Japan-only release depicts a heavily modified '93 RX-7 FD3S as it appears in recent episodes of the japanese manga 'Initial D'.
This kit contains another retooled body, this time the hood and front and rear bumpers are separated from the body. The headlights are still molded shut.
The hood has a large open vent molded on, the rear bumper looks stock. I wasn't able to identify the type of hood nor the side skirts fitted, but the other parts look like: Mazdaspeed rear wing, Border front bumper/spoiler, Knight Sports door mirrors. The kit comes with 18in RE Amemiya AW7 wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza RE711 tires.
Body, chassis and all other parts are molded in black.
The decal sheet offers Enfini badges and the usual console and instrument faces, license plates, etc.
There is a cardboard sheet in the box with punch-out drawings of the main characters of 'Initial D' .

FD3S RX-7 Project D Version, 'Initial D' series Nr.21

released in April 2006
rereleased in September 2013

Keisuke Takahashi finally saw the light and had his trusty FD upgraded by RE Amemiya, so Fujimi followed suit. The result is a great new RX-7 FD kit. Compared to the regular Initial D version, this kit contains the following new parts:
  • a brand-new body with the wide body kit and vented hood molded on and a separate front bumper
  • a 15-part aerokit consisting of side skirts, a big raised GT-Wing II rear wing, a rear undertray with diffusor and front and rear winglets
  • additional clear parts with lenses and covers for the recessed headlights and an RE Amemiya rear lights set with integrated spoiler
  • additional brightly plated parts with big-bore exhaust, headlight reflectors and mirror faces
The body is particularly well done, with delicate details and very finely molded louvres in the hood.
With the wide body comes a wider track, this is dealt with by adding extra poly caps on the rear axle and a set of rings (parts R9) for widening the front track.
The wheels are 17in Advan RG fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tires.
Body, aerokit and seats are molded in yellow, interior and chassis parts are molded in black and the wheels are painted gold.
New decals are provided for dashboard dials, center console, indicator lights, road tax stickers, license plates and Enfini badges (you will need to provide your own carbon print decals for the front splitter, rear wing stays and rear undertray, instructions have you paint these parts gloss black).
Mazda RX-7 FD RE Super G (17.3kB)

FD3S RX-7 RGO (Masaki), 'Bayside Midnight' series Nr.5

released in January 2000

box top (20.4kB) Yet another limited Japan-only release, this time depicting a car that stars in the comic book series 'Bay Shore Midnight' and the arcade racing game 'Wangan Midnight' that was based on the stories.
The kit depicts an FD3S RX-7 street tuned by 'Racing Gang Ota'. The model comes with a new front bumper and air dam, making this kit the fourth new FD3S RX-7 body Fujimi has tooled in less than a year !
Other new parts are a pair of aerodynamic door mirrors and a set of 17in BBS wheels with separate lips. The wheels are in metallic grey plastic (not plated) and come with a set of Pirelli P Zero tires. Body and interior parts are molded in white, floorpan and other components are molded in black.
Also new are the decals, which include a 'Speed Factory RGO' decal for the top of the windshield, a set of white dials and neat silver Mazda, Enfini and RX-7 logo's.
This kit contains the circular tail lights and the RS rear wing from the '99 RS, but also has Enfini badges and a front spoiler with the early style driving lights, I guess reading the books will explain it all.
There's just one thing missing from this kit: the car in the books is fitted with a full roll-cage which is also visible on the box art. The interior in the kit however is completely stock apart from the seats.

The set contains unpainted resin parts for FD3S driver Keisuke Takahashi and a number of upgrade parts for the Fujimi 1/24 FD3S kit. Apart from the well crafted figure, the most interesting parts are the raised head lights as none of the 1/24 FD3S model kits contain parts for depicting the head lights raised !
